SNMP Trap Server

SNMP Trap Server provides standardized, extendible,and portable Network Management features:

• Configuration Management - Keeping track of device inventory, configuration, provisioning
• Fault Management - Proactively dealing with problems and emergencies in the network
• Performance Management - How smoothly is the network running? Can it handle current and future workload

SNMP Trap Server uses Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) to provide trap-directed notification. Trap messages are sent by agents to report error events in a process or device. The SNMP Trap Server also provides an in process DNS service so the messages include the Host name and IP address.

 

The SNMP Trap Server tests the trap messages against user defined tables to determine the appropriate action to take on the trap event. It also provides user defined summary reports that can be sent to the network administrators via email on a regular scheduled basis. These summary reports provide the ability to collect and generate reports by IP and email address so each report can be segmented and sent to the administrator responsible for the device or host the message belongs to.

 

Each SNMP Trap Server ships with the RLJL MasterComm™. This allows the user to build Button Objects using the RLJL Language to take any special action needed in the event of a trap message. RLJL MasterComm™ provides the ability to use the agent's Management Information Base (MIB) to poll the agent for more detailed information on the status of the trap alarm. It also provides options to send more detailed notifications to personnel.

DSC can provide custom agents for systems needing the ability to send SNMP trap messages to a trap server.
