July 2011 Newsletter
Happy Anniversary Russ and Joshua!

Russ Skelton and Joshua JabourIn the month of June we had two of our employees have anniversaries. It was Joshua Jabours' 3rd anniversary and Russ Skelton's 16th anniversary with us.  We appreciate what both of these men do for our business here at dscTech.  In this month's newsletter I wanted to tell you a little bit about both of these gentlemen. Russ Skelton started with the company in June of 1995. While he has held many positions & titles, he is currently Senior Software Engineer. He has played a vital role in getting the company to where it is today.  Coming out of Southern Polytechnic State University, all Russ wanted to be was a programmer and developer.  He has done just that by playing a crucial role in the developing of many of our software programs including our newest, the Alarm Surveillance Notification.  The businesses that have purchased our software over the years have been able to experience Russ' work first hand.  Russ has not only been a programmer, but he has also been asked to help do many things such as setup networks or get one of those nasty viruses off a computer.  Whatever is asked of Russ he is more than willing to do what he can to help solve the problem.  One thing Russ takes tremendous pride in is offering our clients terrific customer service and developing long lasting business relationships.  Russ and his wife Cathy live in Toccoa, Georgia along with their horses, rabbits and even a hedgehog.  When Russ is not programming,or developing, he enjoys reading, sports and spending time with his wife.

Joshua started before finishing high school and is our Junior Software Assistant.  JJ, as we call him, works hand and hand with our senior tech staff in developing and the testing of our software systems including the building of our hardware components.  He also helps dscTech in the computer services side of our business.  If you have a problem with your computer, JJ can fix it.  During the last year he has worked with many of you in your place of business when you have had computer problems pop up or if you wanted help with a network issue.  Joshua has played a big part in all of our areas of business and has helped dscTech develop long lasting business relationships.  Joshua enjoys spending time with his family, reading and working on his coin collection.

DscTech, Inc would like to thank both of these men for the dedication

they have brought to our business and our clients.  We look forward to their continued help in making dscTech the best IT company in the South.

Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE)

DscTech has just been certified as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE).  Some may ask what is DBE and how does it work?
The Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Program was created to provide a level playing field for small minority and women owned companies wanting to do business with DOT and other agencies receiving federal funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

There are many companies that are alloted funds to do business with a DBE certified company. So remember the next time your network is down, you need work on your router or firewalls, need a new web site, need an alarm device monitoring and notification system (just to name a few) - we are just a call or click away.

If you are one of the companies that get credit for using a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise business here is our Vendor ID; 2DSo50 and our NAICS Code 541511.  Please consider us as a provider of business software solutions for your company.

For more information on DBE for dscTech, Inc please email david@dsctech.net or call David at 706-856-3282

Wireless in the Home

Techies at the Bottom

Wireless in your Home.

Like the idea of setting up a wireless network at home but don't want it to take all day.  Here are a few pointers to help you get the right tools for setting up a wireless network.

· First you need to make sure that your operating system is up to date. The best way to do this is by using Windows Update to check for new service packs.

· Next you must make sure that your devices (computers, laptops and/or printers) have built-in wireless networking or a network adapter. Wireless network adapters can be purchased but most newer devices come with wireless adapters built-in.

· You also need a DSL or cable Internet connection. It cannot be dial-up.

· Now you need a wireless router, a DSL modem, or a cable modem with built in wireless networking support.

The newer DSL and cable modems come with wireless capability. Most people get their modems from their Internet Service Provider (ISP) so the easiest way to find out what you have or need is to ask your ISP.

If  you need to buy a wireless router the Linksys router is very popular and easy to set up. If you have to purchase a wireless router there will be detailed instructions on the setup of that router.

If your ISP provided you with a modem router they will have provided you with the instructions for connecting your network.

Questions or concerns with setting up a wireless network? Let dscTech give you a hand.  You can email  us at sales@dsctech.net      or call David at           706-856-3282.
