19 Years Old!

Happy 19th Birthday dscTech, Inc!

This month dscTech, Inc celebrated its 19th year in business.  Where has the time gone?  dscTech was started by Kym and Larry Douglas out of their own home back in January of 1993. They started the company with the name of Larry Douglas Software.

Larry and Kym had a vision of offering quality business solutions to Telcos that would satisfy the need of a management system that would communicate with switches and add the functionality needed to keep up with a rapidly changing network.  Their first full system that they developed was called PermaStore, which enabled Telco's to store images of call data and other files off site.  Larry's vision to develop a new programming language, the RLJL Language, opened many more doors over the years outside of the Telco industry, along with many different types of products.

In March of 1995, with the continued success of the business, they decided to incorporate to Douglas Software & Communications, Inc. and they also found themselves in need of some help.  Along came a kid fresh out of Poly Tech University, by the name of Russ Skelton.  Russ took his know how and knowledge and began right away putting it to use.  Before long the business was really starting to take off and Kym and Larry found themselves needing to move out of the home office and open up an outside office.  The place that they found was in the previous office of   Georgia Power on East Franklin Street.  This gave them room to expand and be able to accommodate more employees that were needed.  This continued on for several years, and then, in June 2007, Douglas Software and Communication, Inc moved into its now, current home, on 26 South Jackson Street in Hartwell, Ga.

With the change in the office location, it seemed like the perfect time to modernize the name to its current name, dscTech, Inc.  On September 12,2007 that became the official name of the company.   Since then the name has remained the same and we have added our signature, Square World Logo, along with our tag line "Technology IS our world".  Over the years we have had the privilege of working with many different clients and dsc employees, including two new employees that were just recently added to the team, Laurie Jabour and Jennifer Burroughs .

We have developed many  software applications including; VisPlant (VPL), Visual Circuit Manager (VCM), RLJL ServiceOrder Integration Server (SIS), Fleet Maintenance System (FMS), TIM Messaging System (TIM), RLJL  Enterprise Communication System (ECS), RLJL CommDroid, RLJL SNMP Poller Droid all the way into our most current flagship product, the RLJL Alarm Surveillance & Notification System(ASN).  Along with the software development, we have also been developing a lot of our own hardware since 2007.   We are building our own servers for our systems and for clients that just need a new server. Along with that we have also built an 8 port and 32 port controller that integrate with the ASN, as well as, our newest product the ASN Generator Monitoring Board.

Not only do we have a lot of experience and history with the Telco industry, we also have 16 years of history of service work with companies outside the telco market.  In 1996 we had our first service client added to our client list, the US Corp of Engineers.  Since then we have added many local businesses to our ever growing list along with many residential clients.

It has been a great 19 years and we look forward to many more.   We want to say thank you to everyone who helped develop this company into what it is today and the great clients that have kept us going through the years.

We are so glad that Kym and Larry had the vision 19 years ago to start such a great company.  Today, we are still developing great software solutions and providing great service to our clients.  Our goal is still, to be a step ahead of technology and be a company that treats each of our client's businesses like it is our own.  This has been a great accomplishment and could have not been achieved alone.  So, Happy Birthday dscTech, Inc!

We look forward to many more  years of developing great software and hardware , offering great customer service and serving our community and our clients.

How to Pick Out the Right HDTVFlatScreen

If money is no option and you strictly want to know the best TV to go in your home, there are still several factors that you have to take into consideration.  First and foremost, you want a TV that has 1080p resolution.  That is 1,920 by 1,080 pixels, progressively scanned, which provides the most detailed picture quality possible. Refresh rate is not important because everything is filmed or recorded in 60hz (the lowest refresh rate in HDTV's) and you cannot add more detail than what is already there.

Now, to determine what would go best in your space we need to consider what the space is like. If it is very brightly lit and you do not want to see a reflection in the screen, you are better off buying a plasma HDTV. If the room is dark or dimly lit then you may want to consider getting an LED TV.

Also, you want to consider the room size. If you sit too close to an HDTV, the picture quality will diminish. For an easy way to remember the distance you should be from the screen, take the screen size add a decimal to the middle.  That is approximately how many feet away you should be for the best quality picture. So if you have a 65 inch TV you will need to sit approximately 6.5 feet away from it.

Last, but certainly not least, you need to consider what you will be plugging into your HDTV. You need to have enough HDMI ports to support all of the HDMI inputs plus any extra that you may get in the future. Likewise, if you have any devices that use analog connections, remember to consider these when shopping for an HDTV.

Christmas Party
Christmas Party

dscTech hosted a Christmas party for the children of the employees. Ages ranged from 3 months to 15 years. The kids enjoyed some yummy treats while listening to some fun Christmas music! Each child then had a chance to try to "pin the star on the Christmas tree", while being blindfolded! The party ended with decorating the Christmas tree with absolutely no help from the adults. The children really enjoyed themselves and it was really amazing to hear their joyous laughter and see their bright smiles light up the room!
